#3 ‘Unknown’ Concerts
This is where the research and money comes in. If you want to be seen as ‘indie’ you’re going to have to be the first one to know about the lastest underground concert. You should probably aim to see at least one concert per week. In the case of concerts; the more the merrier. For a resource on concerts (if you live in LA) is LA Weekly or any source similar to that. Attending a concert would get you + 12 indie pts. Being the first one to tell your friends about a concert will get you 17.
WARNING!!
Before you spend countless hours trying to be indie, we just wanted to let you know that this isn’t an easy ordeal. Becoming ‘indie’ will take many uses of your parent’s credit card and an attitude to go with it. Also, (and read carefully) becoming indie=RESEARCH, RESEARCH and even more REASEARCH. The results of becoming indie might leave you broke all the time, might make your grades drop and MIGHT be the cause of losing all your ‘non-indie’ friends. So think about it, and think hard. Do you really want to become indie?? If you said yes +5 indie pts for you. (It’s kindalike monopoly; you have to start with something.)
Live in 3, 2, 1!
What’s a better way to kick off an Indie blog than with some typical Indie music. We’d say listening to Vampire Weekend gets you about… 12 ‘indie cred points’. Guys: notice what the band members are wearing most of the time; this is a prime example of that classic indie ‘look’. To get some of these indie-tastic goodies for yourself look no further than Urban Outfitters , AA, or the typical ‘vintage’ store. Shopping at any of these fine establishments will increase your indie points, however vintage should give way more than UO or AA. Note on ‘vintage’ stores: If anything (WE MEAN ANYTHING!) is less than five bucks, hightail it out of there; it ain’t vintage if you think it is reasonably priced. Also, just because someone else wore it two decades ago doesn’t mean it is ‘vintage’, it must have that funky-knit-washedout-’unique’-kitsch-y feel to it.
